How to Measure Your Dog for a Kinstroll Support Harness

By Kinstroll ·

For the Kinstroll full-body harness, record chest, hips, back length and belly-panel length, then compare all four with the product chart. Weight is a starting point. The rear harness has different fit guidance, so do not use the full-body chart to choose its size.

Before measuring

Have a flexible measuring tape and a place to write the results. Follow the product's measurement illustration while your dog stands naturally, if comfortable. Record the units with every number. Do not force a position or continue if your dog is uncomfortable; ask for help before choosing the product.

The four full-body harness measurements

  1. Chest: measure around the widest part of the rib cage, just behind the front legs.
  2. Hips: measure around the widest part of the rear body.
  3. Back length: measure along the back between the front and rear support points shown in the product's guide.
  4. Belly panel: measure the underside length between the front and rear leg openings.

Use the illustration on the full-body harness product page to identify the measurement points. Back length here is not a generic collar-to-tail measurement.

How to handle measurements that point to different sizes

Compare each column separately. A weight band does not override a chest or hip measurement. Do not average the results or automatically size up; a larger harness also changes its length and panel dimensions.

Example: a 25 lb dog falls in the listed M weight band, but a 23 in chest exceeds the listed M chest range of 19.3โ€“22.8 in. That is a reason to check the other measurements and contact us, not an automatic recommendation for L.

The rear harness uses a different chart

The rear support harness lists S for 9โ€“17 lb, M for 18โ€“30 lb, L for 31โ€“44 lb and XL for 45โ€“66 lb. These are starting weight bands; rear-body and leg-opening fit still matter. The current listing does not supply the same four-measurement circumference chart as the full-body harness.

Do not borrow chest or hip ranges from the full-body table. For a slim, deep or broad build, or if your dog falls between sizes, contact Kinstroll before ordering. XS on the rear product is an assist-strap-only option, not a wearable rear harness.

Copy this checklist when asking for sizing help

  • Product: full-body or rear support harness.
  • Current dog weight and units.
  • For full-body support: chest, hips, back length and belly-panel measurements, with units.
  • The sizes your measurements point to and any uncertainty about measurement positions.
  • The everyday movement you want to assist.

Send your sizing question to Kinstroll before ordering if the information does not line up.

Check the fit when the harness arrives

Follow the selected product's fitting guide. The harness should be centered and lie flat without pinching or restricting breathing or movement. Check the fit during supervised use. Both Kinstroll support harnesses provide mobility assistance; neither is designed for suspension or fully carrying a dog.

Stop use if you notice rubbing, pain, breathing changes, distress or unusual movement. New or worsening mobility problems need veterinary advice; measurements cannot establish medical suitability.

Still choosing the type? Read full-body vs. rear support harnesses or return to the complete mobility selection guide.
