Measure from the floor to the top of the mattress or seat cushion, then check that the full stair footprint fits flush against the furniture.

Place the stairs flush against the furniture on a clean, dry, level floor with no gap at the top.
Guide your dog slowly up and down. Stop if the stairs shift, the foam deforms excessively or your dog cannot step comfortably.
Care & limits
Support should still feel like support.
Supervise until the route is familiar. Choose 22D for a softer feel or 30D for a firmer feel, but do not treat foam density as a weight rating. Wash the removable cover according to its care label.

Which height should I choose?
Measure to the top of the usable mattress or seat cushion. Choose the configuration whose top step creates the closest practical transition, then confirm its floor footprint fits.
Is 30D foam stronger than 22D?
30D feels firmer and 22D feels softer. Density alone does not establish a tested maximum weight capacity.
Can my dog use the stairs immediately after delivery?
Let the compressed foam regain its full intended shape first, then fit the cover and check stability before supervised use.
